Eligibility Criteria for IMF Summer Internship (IMF Internship 2022-23):
For an economics internship, you must have focused your studies on monetary and international economics, financial markets, public finance, economics or a similar field. In addition, you must have strong analytical and quantitative abilities and have a good command of written and spoken English. If you are presently completing a PhD, you should:

- You should be below theage of 32at the start of the internship
If you are currently completing a master’s degree:
- You should be registered as anactive student at the time of application (not yet graduated)

What type of visa would I need, and would the IMF facilitate this?
If you are not a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S., and do not have another work authorization that would give permission you to work at the IMF, you will require a G4 visa. We will offer the paperwork necessary to facilitate your G4 visa request with U.S. authorities. For those applicants who are studying in the US who have an F-1 visa, an acceptable work authorization would need to be obtained (e.g., CPT).
What are the minimum and maximum time period of the IMF Internship?
The minimum time period is 10 weeks and the maximum duration is 12 weeks.
Does the IMF offer housing for non-local interns?
The IMF does not offer housing, nor housing assistance/support. Interns are responsible for finding and securing their own accommodations/living.
Can an internship program lead to a longer-term assignment?
An internship cannot be extended more than 12 weeks. However, the internship allow you to develop first-hand knowledge of the IMF and offer the IMF hiring managers with first-hand knowledge of your ability and potential, which enhance the chances that you will get a longer-term position, such as with the IMF’s Economist Program.
